This historic Grade II listed building boasts free Wi-Fi access and superb city transport links, situated in a prime location for shops, theatres and the former G-MEX exhibition centre.

A famous landmark dating back to the mid-19th century, the Britannia Hotel offers contemporary facilities and superb period features, including a beautiful balcony stairwell. It has 2 of Manchester’s popular meeting places in the Wave Bar and Bar-Rogue, providing food all day at affordable prices, with great music and DJs. Add to this Jenny's Carvery, a Pizzeria and the traditional comfort of Crompton's French Restaurant, and you are truly spoilt for choice.

A 5-minute walk from Piccadilly Station (with direct links to the airport), the hotel is also adjacent to the main coach station and has the Metro tram system on its doorstep. Valet parking can be arranged on arrival and a multi-storey car park is close by.

Hotel information

The Britannia Hotel dates back to 1858, when the building was opened as the world’s original cash and carry store. It went on to become the cotton industry’s most famous warehouse.

Lift access is available to the ground floor and all rooms, with accessible rooms and bathrooms available. Restaurants and bars are accessible via stairs. Please note that Crompton’s French Restaurant is not accessible for guests with mobility problems.

Food & beverage

Crompton's French Restaurant:
Along with its traditional, intimate decor, the restaurant offers superb French cuisine with service to match. Full à la carte and fixed price menus are available, with meals served from 18:00 to 21:45 (Monday to Saturday).

Crompton's Bar:
Adjoining Crompton's French Restaurant, the bar offers a wide range of cocktails and aperitifs amid elegant surroundings. The bar stays open for residents until very late in the evening.

Jenny's Restaurant and Bar:
A modern restaurant and bar, very popular with the locals. The Big Britannia Breakfast is served here, with its extensive selection of hot and cold dishes. At lunchtime, there is a super value buffet and traditional roast meal on Sundays. In the evening, an extensive fixed price menu offers a selection of traditional and modern tasty meals.

The Pizzeria:
Enjoy the jolly Italian atmosphere found within the pizzeria. Offering everything from an espresso coffee and a deep filled sandwich, to a 3-course Italian style meal. Open from 11:00 to 02:00.

The hotel also boasts 2 popular bars, Wave and Bar-Rogue, both open until late with music and DJs.

Area information

The Britannia Hotel is close to the city’s financial district, around 700 metres from Manchester Central (formerly known as G-MEX). Both Chinatown and The Village, 2 popular city areas boasting a range of bars and restaurants, are both only a few minutes away on foot. The City of Manchester Stadium and Sport City are both only 3.2 km (2 miles) from the hotel. The hotel is also lucky enough to possess excellent public transport links, offering easy access to most of Manchester’s most famous attractions.

The hotel was in the city centre.

A bit noisy because of the music in the clubs close to the hotel, but it was saturday night.

Only a brief stay but the location is good and the breakfast was also good.

The description of the room as an "executive" room was a little ambitious it was a reasonable standard. The bars and clubs in the hotel basement are very noisy until the early hours so if this bothers you ask for a quiter area in the hotel.

top breakfasts

noise from outside, no double glazing , air con meaning we had to sweat or open window, either way the noise of drunk people was too much at 3 in the morning etc

The service at reception was excellent.

We were put in a room directly above the night club and had 2 nights
with very little sleep.

the convenience of location.

The room was not in the greatest of condition as the main lights didn't work and neither did some of the lamps. There also was a small hole in part of the ceiling.

The hotel is very central and in walking distance of the nightlife.

Despite the hotel and its bar / restaurant being very nice i felt the rooms needed updating as they are poor in comparison with the rest of the hotel.

When we first walked into the Hotel It was very impressive and the staff were very friendly and helpful, The room was clean and had what we needed.The breakfast was second to none . The location is right in the heart of the city with the bus stop 1 min away and train station approx 5 mins. So top marks all around. Thank you

very very noisy!!! there were streets works going on that night too but it was very loud anyhow. next time i´d vote for a quiet room otherwise i won´t go there.
